| Willistown was a part of the 50,000 Welsh Tract survey for William Penn in 1684 as a new homeland for settlers from Wales. As it turned out, the area was predominantly settled by English Quakers. Sugartown Road, begun in 1710, was the first road to pass completely through the township. Agriculture flourished along the roadway, and Sugartown was once of the earliest settlements. |
| Its continuing rural character makes Willistown Township a reserve in the midst of growing suburban communities that surround it is a glimpse of the not so distant past, enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. It is from this idylic setting that Saint Francis-in-the-Fields reaches out to the world with the Gospel imperative of Jesus Christ, the Good News of God's love for all Creation. |
